While the launch of Galaxy Note 3 is scheduled on September 4, rumours for the Samsung Galaxy S5 have already started surfacing. According to South Korea’s Electronic Times News, the upcoming Galaxy S5 will feature a brand new 16-megapixel camera on its flagship smartphone early next year.
Initially there were reports on Samsung developing a new 16-megapixel sensor with OIS. So it was obvious that this will not debut with the Galaxy Note III, because Samsung reportedly cannot mass produce the camera sensor.
“At first Samsung Electronics wanted to adopt the OIS function for Galaxy Note 3, but the schedule was put off due to problems with parts supply,” the report noted.
According to the industry on August 25, the Advanced HW Development Team of the Wireless Business Division of Samsung Electronics is developing a smartphone module with a 16-mega-pixel camera scheduled to be launched next March. To meet the development schedule of Samsung Electronics, SONY is known to have moved up the release schedule for the 16-mega-pixel Back Side Illumination (BSI) CMOS Image Sensor (CIS).
This seems to point to a Samsung Galaxy S5 launch date in March, which is not surprising considering that the Galaxy S4 also launched in March.
Optical image stabilization (OIS) now seems to be a common feature in smartphone cameras, though it was first seen barely a year ago with the Nokia Lumia 920. Of late we have seen on multiple devices like the HTC One, LG G2 and even the Xolo Q1000s.
This rumour for the Galaxy S5 is the first of the lot and considering the launch of the device in march next year, this seems more of a possibility than just a rumour.
