Apple Working On Intelligent Brightness Control And Automated FaceTime Camera

Recently Apple Insider spotted two newly published patent applications from Apple, describing a system that could help improve performances for future iPhones and iPads, via selective screen brightness control and auto camera switching during FaceTime video calls.

The first Apple patent application describes a way for a user to selectively adjust brightness and contrast of different user interface elements independently of one another. This is something that some apps already offer.

Essentially, this could work in practice by doing things like selective lightboxing. Foregrounding elements that contain active content and providing enhanced visibility as well as offering some battery savings.

Apple’s invention would have the advantage of making this a system-level feature, and one that works automatically in some cases. This could have big impacts not only in general usability, but for specific accessibility advantage as well.

The 2nd patent application describes a way in which Apple devices might be able to switch automatically between front and rear-facing cameras. This is based on cues from the user and what’s being captured by each camera lens. This would require devices to capture both streams at one time. ButApple says in the patent that advances in mobile processor tech have recently begun to make that possible without too much excess demand on system resources.

In practice, such a system would be able to work with live calls via services like FaceTime, so that when a participant says something like “Look what Bruno’s doing” and the rear-facing camera detects a dog-like shape in frame, it switches automatically to broadcasting that feed to the receiving party.

This could also work for locally-recorded video. The patent application says, “Doing things like switching between front and back cameras depending on if it detects the person doing the filming is talking or not.”

Both of these are the type of next-gen tech projects that likely won’t make it into hardware for the immediately incoming generation of Apple iPhone’s or iPad’s. But they are logical enough additions to existing features that we could well see them in a couple of years’ time.

Apple Buys Data Compression Startup AlgoTrim

Apple LOGO Store 1

Swedish news agency Rapidus reports (viaTechCrunch) that Apple has acquired AlgoTrim for an undisclosed sum.
Apple has already reportedly acquired 6 start-ups in this year. AlgoTrim is the number 7. Apple has not given any comments till now about this acquisition.
AlgoTrim is a software firm that develops advanced solutions for mobile devices to maximize their performance in the area of data compression, mobile imaging, video, and computer graphics. As depicted by its name, firm develops such compression algorithms that use less bandwidth, power and memory and faster image processing specially JPEG ones.
AlgoTrim mostly use faster codec solutions in its mobile softwares that are best in the market. Apple has already acquired another Swedish face recognition firm, Polar Rose and 3D mapping company, C3.
But it’s not hard to think of benefits of AlgoTrim’s technology for a company like Apple. Squeezing the file size of software updates could be a big plus for Apple, whose App Store must constantly issue numerous updates to countless apps. And any technology built into iOS that could render images on the screen faster would be a boon for any app that shows graphics — which is to say almost any app ever written.
Last year, AlgoTrim reported a revenue of 3.0 million USD, with an net income before taxes of EUR -1.1 million.  Until now, AloTrim has been focused mostly on Android development.

iPad Charger Explodes in UK

Tim suffered a terrible electric shock when his daughter’s iPad charger exploded in his hand. Tim Gillooley claims his eight year old girl(Chloe) could have been killed if she had been the one to reach down and unplug the device. Tim was burnt by the shock.
As reported by Mirror news, this comes a month after the family of a Chinese woman, Ma Ailun, claimed she was killed as a result of being electrocuted while chatting on her iPhone 5 as it charged. Mr Gillooley, from Warrington, bought the iPad from the Apple Store in Liverpool for his daughter.
He said: There was a huge bang and it blew me across the room. I was in shock. I was hysterically laughing for about two minutes. It was a bad shock that went down my arm. My mum was panicking and Chloe burst into tears. Nine times out of 10, Chloe would have gone to get it herself. I think it would have killed her.

Tim  noticed Chloe’s iPad had charging problems so he returned it to the Apple Store three months earlier but was told there was nothing wrong with the charger or the device. They even bought a new official charger and lightening cable to see if it would solve the problem.
He added.  “We were big fans of Apple but I won’t let my daughter near her iPhone if it’s a ticking time bomb.”
Apple has asked Tim for the burnt remains of the charger to review.

Leaked iPad Mini 2 Shell Shows Similar Design

ipad-mini2
In more than 20 images of the iPad Mini 2, unibody chassis showing a silver-finish device are of a WiFi + Cellular version, going by the plastic antenna insert on the upper rear panel.

A similar design to the first generation iPad mini. Perhaps the only difference looking at the rear shell is again one that we’ve seen before. Instead of being a glorified sticker on the outside of the iPad shell, the Apple logo looks to be embedded within the metal back panel.

As far as the display is concerned, an obvious upgrade over the first-gen iPad mini is bound to emerge. Apple will indeed opt for a Retina display on the iPad Mini 2. Both Samsung and LG Display are apparently supplying panels, while other sources have confirmed that 2048 x 1536 is the target resolution, just like the full-sized iPad with Retina display.

The iPad mini release date is unknown, though speculation suggests that it could be before the holiday season beginning in October – 12 months after the original iPad mini made its debut. This seems more likely than the launch on September 10 event.

Apple is yet to officially send out invites to its upcoming event, As of the latest rumors, the event will see not only fresh iPhones announced.

iOS 7 To Be Launched On September 10

September 10 is the date we’re currently marking in the diaries for the iPhone 5S and 5C reveal, and that may have just been reinforced by a claim that we’ll see the release of iOS 7 that very same day.
According to an email sent to developers from Nuance, the company behind Siri, the general availability date for iOS 7 is set for September 10.
The Next Web contributing writer Owen Williams posted the below email from Nuance to his personal blog, it reads:

As you are probably aware, iOS 7 GA will be released on September 10th.The NDEV Program has pre-qualified that SpeechKit 1.4.5 works properly on iOS 7, but we encourage you to conduct own testing to ensure that when the upgrade happens, your Nuance speech services continue to work seamlessly.

It asked developers using its API to conduct testing to ensure that their services work on iOS 7 even though its SpeechKit 1.4.5 is pre-qualified to work properly on iOS 7. Nuance is the voice recognition focused company which has also worked on Siri, Apple’s intelligent voice assistant.
Historically, Apple has released iOS Golden Master versions to developers on the same day as the announcement of new iPhones, giving developers time to test their apps with the final version of the new iOS before its release it to the general public a couple of days before the launch of the new iPhone.

TOP 5 IOS APP STORES FROM WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD FREE APPS

Top 5 app stores (JAILBREAK)

Disclaimer: Before reviewing, we make it clear that it is against piracy. The legal way for users would be to use App store for downloading purposes. The intention over here is purely informational.
AppCake is one of the best Installous alternative. While the basic functioning is same, the major difference is that AppCake is only restricted to iOS devices that have been jailbroken. For those users who haven't jailbroken, this app cannot be used.
App Cake Installous alternative
For the installation purpose, AppCake repo is a prerequisite. While its specificity for jailbroken devices can be considered as a drawback, its advantage lies in its ease of use. Also it offers users a larger number of apps that can be downloaded for free. This comfort level has made it a Installous alternative of choice forjailbroken devices on iOS 6.1.2, 6.1.3, 6.1, 6.0 and 5.1.1 firmware.
For installing add the cydia repo source by using: http://cydia.iphonecake.com
Using this, it is possible to have paid apps without any cost. The beauty of this app lies in its functionality. By using this, users wouldn't even have to jailbreak their devices. This gives this app an edge, since it is one of the few ones around that is offering such flexibility of usage for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
Zeusmos best Installous alternative
Another surprise package is the fact that this app was made by a fifteen year old named Kevin. When the issue of piracy was raised, he disclosed that this was not his intended purpose. He has also expressed that the piracy aspect would be catered through an update.
At this moment, it is available for download for all iDevices in both jailbroken and conventional iOS form. As per latest information, fees of $5 would be charged per year.
It can downloaded from its site Zeusmos.com
Vshare is also commonly referred to as App VV and is a pretty solid Installous alternative. This app is also able to provide users with the ability to download paid apps for free.
In a matter of small time, this app has had a major following in the jailbreak community. Vshare or App VV both refer to the same app that is available from Cydia. AppCake and Vshare have become an alternate of choice for people who have jailbroken devices.
Vshare for IOS 6
As is the case with the remaining of the alternatives, the working format of Vshare is same as Installous. There is also a level of similarity in the interface of the two apps, which makes it a good alternative. As was the case with Kuaiyong, the language of the interface is in Chinese. Translating it is a tough job and hence is a drawback.
The download for this app can be made easily through the Cydia repository: http://repocydia.com/
This app which is an alternative to Installous can run on iOS 6 as well. The name of this app is Chinese and means “use quickly”. The mode of operation is similar to Installous. In this case also no jail breaking is required and apps can be downloaded for free. The basic difference between Kuaiyong and Zuesmos is in its form of licensing. In the former case, bulk enterprising license is being used to allow paid apps to bedownloaded for no cost.
Kuaiyong top Installous alternative
As mentioned earlier, this app is completely compatible with the latest iOS 6. The only catch here is that the interface is in Chinese and can be a problem for non-Chinese.
This is the last of the Installous alternatives that are being reviewed here. iFunbox's basic use if for managing, browsing and transferring files between iDevices and Windows/Mac platforms. While it started slow, it has since developed a large popularity in the Installous community as a worthwhile alternative.
Installous 5 was not compatible with iOS 6, which was a major drawback. However, iFunbox is totally compatible, which is a big bonus. People using this feature would experience no bugs as some had complained in the case of Installous 5 for iOS 6.
iFunbox Installous alternative IOS 6
Another aspect is that iFunbox has updated itself to a 2.0 version. This has increased functionality in terms of the interface and also management tool. The bottom line is that it has made app installation and downloading a whole lot easier.
The diversity of use can be understood from the fact that this feature not only manages the app but also the files that are stored on the device. These files can be your photos, music or even videos.
The main focus of iFunbox is on the app installation aspect. This allows users to search for apps using customized options. They have sorted into different types based upon their availability ( new, top paid, free). In addition to this, there are special features present in the case of celebratory seasons like Christmas.
Best Installous alternative IOS 6
So in this post, we have completed a review on the best Installous alternatives that are available. The ranking criteria were focused on ease of use and also the level of features that are on offer in the different apps. So for those who were dejected with the closing down of Hackulous, this post is a cheer up message for accessing alternatives.

Best Jailbreak Tweaks For The iPad

Now that you’ve jailbroken your iPad on iOS 6 with Evasi0n the right way, it’s time to install the coolest tweaks and apps from Cydia, the jailbreak alternative to the App Store.
Wondering what you should install? Here’s a roundup of the very best jailbreak tweaks available for the iPad:

Emblem — A Better Way Of Receiving Push Notifications ($2)

Emblem iPad_watermarked

Emblem is the way Apple should have done push notifications on the iPad. Instead of iPhone-like banners that fall down from the top center of the status bar, this tweak gives notification cells that slide in from the side of the screen like OS X on the Mac.
You can dismiss notifications by holding and dragging them offscreen. If a bunch of notifications arrive at once, they will intelligently stack on top of each other, allowing you to swipe through one at a time while conserving screen real estate. Emblem includes a really neat tutorial to teach you how to get started once you download it from Cydia.

MountainCenter — OS X’s Notification Center On The iPad ($3)

MountainCenter iPad_watermarked

Notification Center on the iPad is terrible by default. The iPhone’s notification tray is merely ported over to the iPad, and it clearly isn’t designed to compliment a bigger display. Pulling down to view notifications just doesn’t feel right.

In this case, the iPad should borrow from the Mac’s way of handling notifications in OS X, and an aptly named jailbreak tweak called MountainCenter does just that. Once you’ve enabled the tweak in the Settings app, Notification Center can be placed to the right of the iPad’s screen, like where it belongs in Mountain Lion. You can also choose the left side if you prefer.
Select how many fingers you want to use when swiping from the side of the screen to reveal Notification Center. Three fingers seems to be the most practical, as you don’t want to conflict with similar swipe gestures you may use in other iPad apps.

NCSettings — Quick Access To Settings (Free)

NCSettings iPad_watermarked

Having to constantly jump in and out of the Settings app to toggle things like WiFi is a pain. NCSettings is an elegant solution for providing quick settings toggles from Notification Center. As you can see, it works great with MountainCenter.
NCSettings has to be enabled by adding it under the Notifications section of the Settings app. Once it shows up next to your other widgets and notifications, you can customize which toggles are accessible. You can quickly toggle your iPad’s screen brightness, WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode, cellular data, volume and more. It’s a really handy tweak that solves an annoying problem.

RetinaPad — Stretch iPhone Apps To Higher Res ($3)

IMG_0203

We all know the frustration of opening an iPhone app on the iPad and seeing it shrunk down to only fit a fraction of the screen. You can stretch iPhone-only apps to fill the iPad’s larger screen, but no one wants to look at a pixelated mess.
That’s where RetinaPad comes in. Using some sort of magical scaling voodoo, this jailbreak tweak stretches iPhone apps to fill the iPad’s screen in 2x mode at full resolution. The interface of the app will still obviously be designed for the iPhone with big buttons and such, but you can use it on the iPad without any blurriness. If there’s an iPhone app you want to use on the iPad too, then this tweak could really come in handy.

Springtomize 2 — Swiss Army Knife Of Tweaking ($3)

Springtomize iPad watermarked

It’s difficult to explain Springtomize because it literally does everything. Springtomize 2 is the combination of dozens of other miscellaneous jailbreak tweaks from over the years. You can change how many icons you have in your dock, what’s in your status bar, how your iOS folders behave, various animations, and much, much, more. If you’re itching to tweak your iPad’s setup, there’s bound to be something worth while that Springtomize offers you.

iFile — Finder For The iPad ($4 With Free Trial)

iFile iPad_watermarked

Apple made a deliberate decision to hide the iOS filesystem. You can’t see a documents folder or move files around like you would on a Mac. And for most people, that’s just fine. But for the tinkerers, iFile is a necessity. It’s like Finder for iOS.

On the iPad, you have more screen space to move through file directories tinker with different packages. You can temporarily store files you download from Safari or elsewhere on the iPad. iFile is also a good way to sideload jailbreak tweaks if they are not available in Cydia.

FolderEnhancer — Unshackled iOS Folders ($2)

IMG_0204

FolderEnhancer is the ultimate jailbreak tweak for bringing your iOS folders to life on the iPad. You can add folders within folders, change folder backgrounds and animations, and add an infinite numbers of apps to each folder.

Here Are The Very Best Jailbreak Tweaks For The iPhone 5

Time to get tweaking.

The iPhone 5 has been jailbroken, and that means that it’s time to install the coolest tweaks and apps from Cydia, the jailbreak alternative to the App Store.

Wondering about what you should install? Here’s a roundup of the very best jailbreak tweaks available for the iPhone 5:

Auxo — Better App Switcher ($2)

Auxo is the way Apple should do the app switcher in iOS.

Tired of Apple’s boring app switcher? Then you need Auxo. Instead of app icons, Auxo displays live app preview cards that can be closed by swiping. There are enhanced music controls and minimalistic toggles for settings like WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular data, and even screen brightness. Because of the Settings toggles, Auxo also does away with the need for SBSettings, an old and popular tweak that lets you access Settings toggles anywhere in iOS.

Auxo is incredibly polished and good looking. It’s hard to imagine Apple doing a better job.

Springtomize 2 — Customize Entire iOS ($3)

It’s the swiss army knife of jailbreak tweaks.

Springtomize 2 for iOS 6 should be on every jailbroken iPhone 5, period. The app combines dozens of jailbreak tweaks into one package. You can customize just about any aspect of iOS you wish, such as: hide app labels, add more apps to dock, shrink app icons, disable folder badges, hide carrier name in status bar, and a whole lot more.

biteSMS — Better Messages App ($8 with free trial)

Now that’s convenient.

biteSMS replaces Apple’s Messages app and adds a slew of useful features. The coolest aspects of biteSMS are Quick Compose and Quick Reply. You can send a message without having to go into the actual Messages app. Just press a volume button on the iPhone and tap the on-screen volume indicator to bring up Quick Compose. Quick Reply lets you swipe an incoming message to answer it without entering the Messages app. You can mark messages you want to read later, and biteSMS will show a little unread ticker in the top right of your iPhone’s status bar.

Stride — Better Passcode ($3)

More creative than a 4-digit PIN.

Android users have always flaunted the ability to unlock their handsets with a gesture. iOS will only let you slide to unlock your iPhone by default, but Stride brings customizable gestures to a jailbroken lock screen.

Once you draw your own unique password, your jailbroken iPhone can’t be unlocked without the specific gesture you create. Stride is really solid and actually feels better than Android’s implementation of the feature. Plus it just looks cool.

Zehpyr — Better Gestures ($5)

Zephry is iOS gestures done right. With this handy tweak, you can use new swiping gestures to quickly switch between open iPhone apps and the app switcher.

A swipe-from-left-to-right gesture can be configured to let you swipe from either side of the iPhone’s screen to switch to the previously opened app. A swipe-up-from-bottom gesture can be configured to quickly show the app switcher without double tapping the Home button.

Zephyr’s settings let you customize how many fingers you want to use for each gesture. You can disable gestures in certain apps, like a game where you don’t want to accidentally swipe out of while you’re playing. Zephyr works particularly well with Auxo.

3G Unrestrictor — No WiFi Restrictions ($4)

Apple restricts what certain services can and can’t do over a cellular connection. For instance, you can only upload photos from your Camera Roll to Photo Stream over WiFi. Many U.S. iPhones are also limited in their ability to use FaceTime over cellular.

3G Unrestrictor tricks iOS into letting certain services work over cellular when they technically aren’t supposed to, including FaceTime. Any app that has cellular restrictions can be added to your iPhone’s blacklist in 3G Unrestrictor. Once added, the app/service will behave as if it’s always connected to WiFi.

There are other jailbreak apps like My3G that offer the same functionality, but 3G Unrestrictor has better compatibility with newer iOS devices.

MyWi — Unlimited Tethering ($20 with free trial)

One of the big pros to jailbreaking is that you can tether with your iPhone’s data connection for free. You don’t have to use a carrier’s WiFi hotspot plan with a jailbreak app like MyWi. The iPhone’s data connection can be shared over WiFi, Bluetooth, or a direct USB connection.

Carriers can catch on to shady tethering activity and potentially charge you for it, so proceed at your own risk.

FolderEnhancer — Customizable Folders ($2)

Not only does FolderEnhancer let you put an infinite amount of apps in a folder, but you can folders within folders. (Folderception?) The folder background can be customized as well with different designs and colors.

iFile — Filesystem Access ($4 with free trial)

Apple made a deliberate decision to hide the iOS filesystem. You can’t see a documents folder or move files around like you would on a Mac. And for most people, that’s just fine. But for the tinkerers, iFile is a necessity. It’s like Finder for iOS.

Display Recorder — Record Screen Activity ($5)

Have you ever seen a video demo for an app where the screen activity is recorded? You can do that on your iPhone too with Display Recorder, a great jailbreak app that captures video of whatever you’re doing on your screen. Once you’re done recording, you can send videos to a desktop computer or upload them directly to YouTube.

FullForce for iPhone — Short Apps Made Tall ($1)

By now most iOS apps should be updated for the iPhone 5’s taller display. But if for some reason you want to use an app that has yet to be updated with compatibility, you’re stuck with ugly black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

FullForce for iPhone is a jailbreak tweak that automatically stretches apps to fit the iPhone 5’s 4-inch display. No more black bars!
Honorable mentions (free)

NowNow: If you’re sick of Siri, then you may like Google’s Voice Search better. NowNow replaces Siri’s ability to search with the web with Google’s voice technology. You can’t use Google for any of Siri’s other tricks, but web results are delivered just fine.

SwipeSelection: Selecting chunks of text in iOS is a pain. SwipeSelection improves the processes by letting you slide one finger on the built-in keyboard to move your cursor. Hold the shift key and slide to select a text chunk.

NCSettings: If Auxo or SBSettings isn’t your thing, then you may like NCSettings. A few Settings toggles are placed in Notification Center next to your weather and stock widgets.

BrowserChooser: Wish that you could make Google Chrome the default iOS browser instead of Safari? Now you can.

Jailbreak Tweak : Multifl0w

When I first saw a video demo of Multifl0w for the iPhone I thought it looked very promising. Now I know it’s much more than that. It delivers a slick and effective multitasking experience for the iPhone. Better than any others I’ve seen so far. Once it ‘s launched it shows you images (bigger than thumbnails, taking up around half a screen in height) of each running application. You simply tap on any of them to switch immediately to it. The images displayed in Multifl0w are of exactly the spot you were at within each app when you last left it, not just an app splash screen or similar. Swiping to scroll among running apps is very smooth “ and you can also easily use a standard flick motion to move quickly from far left (where the longest open / first opened) app is located to the far right, where the most recently opened app is found. Everything works smoothly and quickly and makes switching between apps faster than any other method I’ve seen so far.

iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C In Fresh Leaks

iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C In Fresh Leaks

As we are approaching the event date on September 10 in San Francisco, the all new leaks makes it more prominent. New leaks from Sonny Dickson, has about 70 purported pictures of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C components. Sonny Dickson, who’s been regularly posting pictures of the new iPhones, including some high resolution ones of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C components including that of ribbon cables and components, the entire intact casings, display assemblies, vibration motor, audio jack, SIM trays, the front and rear cameras, and the mounts to attach all of the components to the casing, among others. The pictures don’t feature the logic board of the phones, though. Some pictures feature the Gold/ Champagne iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C placed side by side.

The Gold iPhone 5S back casing features White coloured strips at the top and bottom, and includes the new pill shaped camera flash module that’s been suggested by a number of rumours. Unlike the iPhone 5′s camera flash the iPhone 5S flash is not round and is rumoured to feature dual-LEDs, which would have white or yellow light depending on the ambient light conditions.

The low-cost iPhone or iPhone 5C has leaked several times. Alleged pictures of the iPhone 5C have revealed a plastic polycarbonate body back panel in White, Blue, Red, Yellow and Green colours, a round camera lens and LED flash, Apple logo and iPhone branding.

The Red iPhone 5C variant appears to have a Black coloured display panel. The phones seen in the images are not very different from the ones seen in previous leaks. We will have to wait till September 10, to see what Apple is going to present with the new launches. So stay tuned..
